Strategic Planning for Growth of Not-For-Profit Organization

Small Not-for-Profit Organization

The Problem

Most successful companies start with a high-level business plan and budget to understand what it should offer, how it will deliver its services or products, and the size of its financial resources.

  • After its initial success, an organization must look beyond the current budget year to ensure that it remains in business
  • For this not-for-profit group, the Executive Director and Advisory Board needed direction to assure the long-term health of the organization

The Solution

Carolyn Picciotti worked with the Executive Director of the organization and several Board members to:

  • Develop a strategic business planning process
  • Facilitate discussions of the vision of the organization, local market and societal needs, and funding sources
  • Establish goals, strategies, and an implementation plan
  • Review the completed plan with the Advisory Board for adoption

The Result

The resulting plan served as a guide for effective growth for:

  • Executive Director
  • Advisory Board
  • Funding sources, as part of submissions for grant proposals
